If you reside in Queensland, you may have noticed an increase in the cost of living associated with energy and want to know what can be done to ease the pain. The good news is, the QLD electricity rebate wants to help you save money on your power bills regardless of whether you’re a homeowner, a renter, a senior or a small business owner. Here are the details you need to know about the QLD electricity rebate for 2025-26. It includes who is actually eligible, how much you could save, and how to ensure you don’t miss out on these discounts.
What Is the QLD Electricity Rebate?
The QLD electricity rebate is a government-funded scheme to assist Queenslanders in paying their power bill. The rebate is available for the 2025-26 financial year as part of the Energy Bill Relief Fund, a partnership between the Australian and Queensland governments that is designed to assist households and small businesses with cost-of-living pressures through direct financial assistance.
For 2025-26, when you are up to date as per your agreement to suspend the rebate, you will automatically receive a $150 rebate paid in two installments of $75 into your electricity account as of 1 July 2025. You don’t need to apply if you pay the electricity account in your name directly to your retailer. You’ll receive the discount as a line item on your bill, in most cases named the ‘Australian Government Energy Price Relief Plan Rebate.’
You could also be entitled to the Queensland Electricity Rebate if you’re a concessional card holder including seniors and pensioners. This gives you an additional $386.34 per year paid quarterly to your electricity bill. But remember it is in addition to the regular QLD electricity rebate.
The rebate is supposed to be easy and automatic for most people, but there are specific processes in place for renters, for people who are in embedded networks and for people who don’t get bills in their own name. The goal is to maximize the number of Queenslanders who receive the QLD electricity rebate and other energy concessions.
Who Can Apply for the QLD Energy Rebate?
Eligibility for Households
In order to get the QLD electricity rebate you must have an active electricity account at that retailer’s or embedded network operator’s premises before 1 July 2025. The offer is simply open to all customers connected to the grid, including customers in remote communities served by Ergon Energy. Your unit needs to have separate metering and you will have to be on the hook for all of your own electricity charges.
If you're a pensioner, senior, veteran or have a Health Care Card, DVA Gold Card or Low Income Health Care Card you can also apply for the Queensland Electricity Rebate as a separate, higher value concession. The service fee rebated is $386.34 a year (including GST) and is paid as the standard QLD government electricity rebate.
You are eligible to receive the Queensland Electricity Rebate if you:

Have a valid concession card (including Pensioner Concession Card, Queensland Seniors Card, DVA Gold Card, or Health Care Card).

Are the electricity account owner at your primary residence.

Live alone or only with your partner, other qualified card holders, dependents, or caregivers who don’t pay rent.

Renters and Shared Homes
Even if your electricity is factored into your rent and paid by your landlord, property manager or body corporate, you are still eligible to receive the QLD electricity rebate. In this scenario, the on-supplier will need to pass the rebate back to you as a credit on your bill. You will need to make sure your landlord or property manager is notified of your eligibility and fills out the needed forms to send to the retailer.
If you don’t get a bill in your name, you should get in touch with the organization you pay your electricity to, to make sure they’re including you when they make a claim for the rebate. The procedure is set in place so renters and tenants of units in multi-unit dwellings, caravan parks and retirement villages aren’t left behind out on this Queensland electricity rebate.
Embedded Networks & Power Cards
Embedded networks are prevalent in apartment buildings, retirement villages and caravan parks, where power is delivered as a single source to a building, and then on-sold or sub-metered to tenants. If you’re within an embedded network, your operator is required to inform their retailer how many eligible customers were there on 1 July 2025.
The retailer will then supply a lump-sum credit, with which the operator will need to rebate residents line by line on their next bill. If you have a card-operated meter, the rebate will be automatically added to your card. You don’t need to do anything extra, but it’s worth checking with your operator to verify it.
Small Businesses Eligibility
Queensland small businesses also qualify for the QLD electricity rebate, which is available through the Energy Bill Relief Fund. To qualify, your business must:

Consume less than 100 MWh of electricity per annum.

Be individually metered and billed for electricity.

Keep an open electricity account with your retailer or embedded network service provider as from 1 July 2025.
The small-business rebate will relieve small businesses up to $150. One reward is paid for each customer, no matter how many sites you have. If your business is in an embedded network the rebate must be requested and passed through your operator.
Certain businesses, including banks, utilities and government-owned sites, are also not able to claim the rebate – even if they have the energy usage levels.
How to Claim or Get the QLD Rebate
In most cases, the QLD electricity rebate is automatically applied to households and small businesses. If your Centrelink or DVA details are already linked with your electricity account, you do not need to do anything. The rebate will be applied as a credit to your bill following 1 July 2025 and again after 1 October 2025.
If you do not see the rebate on your bill, or your information was not matched, you will need to apply or register manually. Check with your electricity retailer or embedded network operator to see if you're eligible and make sure your concession card details are the current ones. If you’re in an embedded network, your operator will need to submit the claim to the retailer and can then pass the rebate on to you.
Rebate dates The QLD electricity rebate key dates are:

The specific timing will depend on an individual billing cycle, so you may see the credit on the next billing cycle after these dates.

Cost of Living Cash payment
From 2024-25, eligible households received $1,000 off their electricity, automatically applied if you had an active account on 1 July 2024. All renters, homeowners and embedded network customers with a metered account should have automatically received this credit. If you move to another address or switch retailer after 1 July 2024, you should be able to take any remaining credit with you, however, you should confirm specifics with your retailer.
Medical Cooling and Heating Concession
You may also be asked if you, or someone in your household, has a long-term medical condition that affects your ability to regulate your body temperature, which may entitle you to the Medical Cooling and Heating Electricity Concession Scheme. Energy assistance payment is $522.09 a year (from 1 July 2025) for air conditioning or heating your home for medical reasons.
To qualify, you must:

Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme (HEEAS).
The Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme is a crisis assistance program for low-income households unable to pay their home energy account because of a short-term financial crisis. If you are facing disconnection or are unable to pay your electricity or gas bill because of an emergency event, you may be eligible for a one-off payment of up to $720 every two years.
To be eligible, you must:

Receive an income no more than the Australian Government's maximum income for part-age pensioners

Be enrolled in your energy provider’s low-income hardship program or payment plan.

Seniors Electricity & Gas Rebates
If you’re a senior, pensioner, or veteran you may qualify for the Seniors Electricity Rebate ($386.34 each year) and the Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate ($92.12 each year). These discounts are credited straight to your bill and are accessible if you are a cardholder with a Queensland Seniors Card, Pensioner Concession Card, DVA Gold Card or Health Care Card.

FAQs
What if my landlord pays the bill?
Even if your landlord, property manager or building manager pays the electricity bill and on-charges you, you will still be eligible for the QLD electricity rebate. The on-supplier has to ask for the rebate, and your bill will be credited.
Can I get it if I use a pre-paid meter?
The QLD electricity rebate is automatically applied to your pre-paid meter. You won’t have to apply separately, but check with your operator to be sure.
Can I get the rebate if I already receive solar FiT?
Yes, being paid a solar feed-in tariff (FiT) will not exclude you from the QLD electricity rebate. You are eligible for both the rebate and payments for excess solar power exported to the grid.
Do I lose the rebate if I move homes?
The QLD electricity rebate moves with your electricity accounts. If you moved after 1 July 2025, the QLD electricity rebate is associated with the electricity account that was operating on that date. If you close your account or move with a different retailer, most companies will transfer any remaining credit to your new account or refund it, but get in touch with your retailer to see if their policy differs.
Can renters apply directly?
